We take on Contracting, Renovations and Cosmetic upgrades alongside our outstanding team of Trades, Designers, Engineers, and Architects.

Founder and Project Manager Matt Hyatt has spent his entire career in the high-end woodworking and construction industry. He started his apprenticeship in Joinery at BCIT soon after high school and worked under experienced journeymen at a highly respected millwork shop in Richmond. Matt earned his Joinery Red Seal in 2010 and continued to hone his skills before making the switch over to the Carpentry trade. He would lend his expertise to an award winning Vancouver custom home construction and renovation company. He would continue his career in Project Supervision and Construction Management, earning his Carpentry Red Seal in 2019.

Avalanche Construction & Woodworks was initially Avalanche Custom Woodworks and was created in 2012. It was initially operated after hours in Vancouver while Matt maintained his fulltime employment building custom homes. In 2024 our firm officially updated our name to better suit our business model, Avalanche Construction & Woodworks. On top of quality craftsmanship, Matt is known for his great communication and transparency. His ability to think globally on every project ensures successful builds and flawless designs.

Through the many projects Avalanche Construction & Woodworks took on, ACW was awarded the Home Stars Best of 2017 award for Carpentry in Vancouver and has been ranked #1 on YELP for many years. Matt and his team have been an integral part in the construction of multiple iconic Whistler and Vancouver residences. We maintain a 5 Star reviews on Google with excellent testimonials.

Matt grew up in the city, living life as a weekend warrior before making the move to Whistler in 2018. Mountain lifestyle and construction are his passions. Whistler life was not a matter of if, but when.
